about me
Hello,
and thank you for visiting Brindley Bears!
My
name is Gayle Walker Brindley and I
am a fiber artist. I grew up in Alaska, in a family of
wonderfully creative women. My mother and her sisters taught me
to knit, crochet, sew and embroider at a very early age.
This
site shows several of my most recent minature animal sculptures.
My raw materials include luxurious yarns,
threads,
fibers, beads, paints, papers, fabrics and any number of other
objects
that may strike my fancy. These materials are manipulated in
numerous ways:
crochet, felting processes (both wet and dry), embroidery,
weaving ... The list is always expanding.
I
liken my artform to a combination of sculpture and painting -
the manipulation of material in a way to
express an idea or a mood. My most recent work in yarns, threads
and
fibers has emphasized how important the choice of raw material is to
the finished piece, both in physical and abstract
characteristics. These materials appeal on both a tangible and
conceptual level, always leading me in new and exciting directions.
